Since 2014, Heiko Volkmer has been working as a freelance filmmaker in Hamburg. Already during his film studies at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, he was engaged with the conditions and motivations of human action. Beyond that, his documentary film projects address current societal issues, social injustices, ecological challenges and political activism. Here, Philosophical, psychological, sociological as well as leftist perspectives, repeatedly play a significant role.

Heiko Volkmer is a co-founder of the independent film production company splitterfilm and is involved as a co-producer and dramaturgical consultant in various film projects. Additionally, he works as a producer, director, cinematographer and editor. He is also a co-initiator of worksaboutcontact, an artist network for commercial film productions.

Most recently, Heiko Volkmer has worked with the activists of Iuventa Crew as well as with the Institute for Social Research Frankfurt and the City Science Lab Hamburg.
